Flying private across the globe: what international charter involves
International charter isn't domestic charter with a longer flight time. There's real regulatory work behind it — permits, customs, overflight clearance — that a good broker handles before you ever notice it was necessary.
What actually happens behind an international charter
- Permits and overflight permissions — most countries require clearance for the specific aircraft and route before departure, arranged in advance, not at the border
- Customs arrangements — coordinated on both ends so arrival isn't the first time anyone's dealt with the paperwork
- Crew duty-time and rest requirements — long-haul international routes are governed by real rest-period rules, which is part of why crew planning matters as much as aircraft selection on longer trips
- Aircraft range — true intercontinental routes need the range to match; this is where Heavy Jet and Ultra-Long-Range aircraft actually earn their category
Where international charter shows up most
Private aviation reaches destinations across every populated continent — this isn't limited to one region. A few places demand shows up consistently:
- Europe — business and leisure travel to hubs like London and Paris
- Caribbean & Latin America — a genuine strength, with strong demand to destinations like Nassau, Kingston, and Cancún
- Beyond — the Middle East and Asia-Pacific, reachable with the right aircraft category and the same permit and customs process described above
Beyond the regions themselves, demand often follows a calendar of its own — Alpine ski season from December through March draws heavy traffic to resorts like Gstaad, St. Moritz, and Courchevel; European Christmas markets in cities like Vienna, Strasbourg, and Salzburg drive late-November and December demand; and European wine harvest season each September, particularly in Bordeaux and Tuscany, brings its own seasonal spike. Cultural fixtures matter too — the Cannes Film Festival (May 11–22, 2027) and the Monaco Grand Prix, which runs back-to-back with it in late May, are two of the highest-demand weeks on the European calendar.
The difference between domestic and international charter isn't the aircraft — it's the paperwork. That's exactly the part a broker should be handling so you don't have to think about it.

Getting the aircraft category right for international trips
Range decides more here than it does domestically — a category that needs a fuel stop turns a direct route into a two-leg trip with its own customs process at the stopover. If your international trip's range and passenger count aren't clear yet, request a quote and we'll match the right aircraft and handle the regulatory work end to end.
